From French, Art Deco is translated as “decorative art”. This style originated in the 1920s of the last century and became popular in the 1930s and 1940s. The term itself arose later, in 1966. Prior to that, it was called “jazz modern”, “zigzag modern”, “streamlined modern”.
The basis of Art Deco is a combination of two styles common in the last decades of the 19th – early 20th centuries, Art Nouveau and Neoclassicism. You can often see artistic elements from Empire, Abstractionism and Cubism. African, oriental and some other exotic motifs also influenced Art Deco.
The style is characterized by natural rigor, symmetry, geometric lines, streamlined forms (streamline), ethnic patterns, interior decoration in halftones and the absence of bright colors. But despite this, elegant luxury, sophistication, colorful ornaments, and elite materials are allowed.
The interior uses gold, silver, brass, crocodile skin, ivory, precious woods, mosaics, floral ornaments, mahogany and ebony, stained glass. A combination of light and black glossy varnishes is popular. The combination of black and light colors is the hallmark of Art Deco style.
Against the background of light walls in the interior, bright colors can be used as accents: gold, purple, red, scarlet, purple, lemon, orange, bright yellow, ultramarine, blue.
The interior in Art Deco style can definitely be called a real work of art.
